- Here’s a story I still tell about Trull every now and then. Intramural basketball game (keep in mind that I thought I was a fair high school basketball player, playing with the likes of John Haase). Trull (aka Mr. All-State) and I begin a fast break. It turns out to be the 2 of us against 4 defenders—not much of a fast break. Trull has the ball and I keep running toward our basket, hoping to get open. I am unable to get open (in my analysis of the situation) and there is no way that anyone could get the ball to me with that kind of coverage. So I give up the fast break, but I am now standing right under the basket. The next thing I know, Trull has somehow managed to weave the ball through the defenders. It hits me in the chest and bounces out of bounds. To this day, I’m not sure how he did it. After that, I knew you had to up your game if you were going to play with him!
