The kid from Liberal (Dave Marden) was a late addition to the class, coming into the fold during fall rush, well after the cool guys had pledged. Probably didn’t hurt that the only other Fiji from Liberal was senior Mike O’Brien, a football player and the older brother of one of Dave’s best high school friends (Pat).
His official arrival at K.U. came at the end of a 380 mile drive with a 'tough' senior sorority girl who was the daughter of family friends. She drove the only Peugeot in Kansas and was amped about the Beatles concert she was going to attend at Municipal Stadium the following weekend.
